Bug Patches
Decorative, sew-on patches that create subversive motifs or cunningly
disguise a hole or mark.
You will need:
- a bug patch
- thin card for template (on old greetings card is ideal)
- scissors
- an iron & ironing board
- a few straight pins
- needle & thread

How to apply a patch:
(not suitable for children due to use of a hot iron, and sharp tools)
1) Cut out a simple, but very neat template to the size and
shape of the desired patch.
2) Heat the iron to 'medium',
3) Lay the fabric face down on an ironing board & place the
card template over the area you want to use.
4) Use the iron to carefully press the excess fabric towards you,
around the card, achieving a nicely shaped edge. Watch your fingers
don't touch the iron - ow!
5) Lift up the patch to check the print placement & shapliness of edge.
6) Trim the excess fabric down to between 5-10mm beyond the template.
7) Remove card & pin in position on garment / ipod cover / pencil
case.
8) Stitch around patch. Contrasting colour thread can look good
too! |
